Two players named Bowen are listed in the 27 man Carlton team squad to play Carlton Juniors on the Brunswick C. G.
One is Fred Bowen recruited from Kensington (Sportsman April 26 p6)

1892 April 23
Bowen was named in the Carlton squad to play a pre season match against Brunswick at the University C. G.

1892 April 30
Bowen is named in the Carlton team squad to play the "Next 25" on the University C. G.

1892 The Argus reports "One of Carlton's new wing men, Bowen, was also playing a very cool and thorough game."

This was in the opening round of the 1892 season, the very first game the Collingwood Football Club played in the V.F.A. at Victoria Park on the 7th. May.
Carlton won this encounter 3.13 - 2.11.

1893 May 13
The VFA Permit Committee granted J. Bowen a transfer to Richmond

Pennings' O.O.A.F. Vol 5 has Fred Bowen playing 1 senior game in 1892. No mention of J. Bowen, perhaps a Second Twenty player.
