Game Review

Miserable weather kept the crowd away.
Wet conditions and a slippery ball was not condusive for a good display of football. South easily adapted to the greasy conditions and the Blues were slow to react.
"However, in the final quarter they woke up, shook off their uncertainty, played dashing, quick football, and had almost overhauled their opponents' tally when the bell rang." (Record, Emerald Hill 18 August p3)

Carlton's glorious winning run came to an end against South Melbourne in Round 13, after last tasting defeat in Round 7, 1917.

The loss would propel South over the Blues and into second spot. Carlton would sit in third, 4 points ahead of Fitzroy in fourth.

Carlton players wore black arm bands as a mark of respect to Darcy Lear, whose brother had been killed in France.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 3rd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 107.3.
