Game Review

Carlton would suffer a horrible defeat to last placed Geelong on the cusp of the 1918 finals campaign. The Pivotonians would win by 5 goals, and with St Kilda winning, the Blues would drop to 4th place. Fitzroy sat one game adrift in 5th, at a time where only 4 teams played off in the finals.

The Blues chances weren't helped by the late arrival of four players, Keily, Canet, Cowley and Johnston. They made their way onto Corio Oval just as the ball was being bounced and dressed as play was in progress, they had been given permission to drive to Geelong in a car and not go with the rest of the team on the train.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 4th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 116.1.
