Game Review

Despite their winning formline the Blues were looking shaky having been stretched to breaking point by Melbourne, South, Richmond and Footscray in successive weeks.

Now they met Essendon, the defending champions, who after an indifferent start, had recorded 7 straight wins to move into the second position. The Blues were missing two of their absolute best in Bert Deacon and Chooka Howell. Carlton were obviously primed for the taking.

For three quarters the match was incredibly tight with one point separating the teams at quarter time and scores locked together for the next two breaks. But the Bombers overran Carlton in the last quarter to win by 40 points. This was Carlton's first loss since Round 9.
