Game Review
Carlton's dominant second term, and our big defensive effort of keeping Melbourne goalless throughout the middle quarters, saw the Blues get home comfortably against the Demons at the MCG.In was a game of surges - Carlton scored the first three goals, before Melbourne hit back with four of their own to hit the lead. The Blues then piled on the next nine majors, setting up a margin of 49 points with one quarter to go. The Demons finished off better, but by then the game was well and truly finished as a contest. The final margin was 33 points, as the Blues won their second match in a row and broke our 'clash strip' hoodoo at last.
In the third quarter, Brendan Fevola scored a goal after he was awarded a free without the ball being bounced in the centre square. This doesn't happen very often, with the only other similar occurrences in our collective memories at the Blueseum being Greg Kennedy at Kardinia Park in round 1, 1975 and Luke O'Sullivan in the 1994 Semi Final, also against Geelong.
