Game Review

Forced to make eight changes to an already struggling side, Carlton simply had to win this match against last-placed Fitzroy, or run the risk of collecting our club's first wooden spoon. It was a near-run thing - the Maroons led by ten points at the last change - but the Blues dug deep and hit the front in the last few minutes to win by 1 precious point!

Fitzroy's hopes of getting off the mark for the year were dashed by one point at Princes Park, after a close game. The Lions were 10 points in front at three-quarter time, but were unable to withstand the determined onslaughts of the Blues in the last quarter. Carlton's victory was due to their steadiness in the last quarter and their sound defence, which was too strong for the Lions chancy forward line. - Football Record.
