Blake was born in St Kilda, and played a single game for Carlton in Season 1905.

He came from St Kilda College (formerly Caulfield College) and actually started his VFL career with the Saints where he played 7 games in two stints with the Saints (4 games from 1897 to 1898, and 3 games in 1903).

He is one of the finest long distance runners of the State, and intends to make a determined effort to keep in the forefront of the harrier packs. " (Herald p4)

George had three brothers who played for Carlton Tom Blake 1892 - 97 (68 games) (captain 1895 - 96), Michael P. Blake 1893 - 94 (1 game), James J. Blake 1890 - 92 (12 games).
