Much like fellow Blue Bruce Campbell and Herbert Cock, Jane played 3 games for Carlton after debuting in 1911. Unlike his compatriates, Jane was able to kick a goal in his time at Carlton. In 1914 he played 10 games for St Kilda, but didn't add to his goal tally.

Jane was born in Dunolly, but was originally recruited from Kalgoorlie City.

1913 The Argus (April 18 p5) talking about Essendon's prospects for this season mention; ".... and Jane, from St.James, who formerly played with Carlton."
