Matthew Penn played reserve grade football for Carlton in 1996. Penn was also used as a top-up player for Collingwood and Sydney reserves in 1996. He also played for North Melbourne reserves in 1998. Penn would later line up with VFL club Northern Bullants.

Penn was originally recruited from Bundoora via TAC Cup team the Preston Knights.
