Nick Austin played reserve grade football for Carlton in 2002.

Austin was originally recruited from Montmorency via TAC Cup team the Northern Knights. He was playing with his original club Montmorency when he was called up to play reserve grade football for the Blues. Austin's only game was Carlton's last win in the VFL, it was the fourth last game and round of the 2002 season (Rd 17 against Williamstown at Optus Oval, Princes Park).

Nick Austin is the son of former Carlton star Rod Austin.

Austin's sporting prowess was with the Carlton Cricket Club in the Premier League as a left-arm opening bowler. Nick made history in November 2012 when he played his 200th game of cricket for Carlton. Nick and Rod became the first father-son combination to play 200 games of League football and 200 games of Premier Cricket. Austin also played three 2nd XI cricket matches for Victoria from 2007 to 2009.

Austin was a forward scout for the Western Bulldogs in the AFL.

He didn't play a senior game for Carlton.

In January 2020 Nick was appointed Head of List Management for the Carlton Football Club. Austin arrives at Ikon Park from the Whitten Oval, where he had two stints (2006-2008 and 2018–present), most recently as the Bulldogs’ National Recruiting Manager. In between his time at the Dogs, Austin played a pivotal role in building the Richmond premiership list as the Tigers’ List Management and Recruiting Officer from 2012-2018. He was also the recruiting officer and opposition analyst at Port Adelaide from 2009-2011.
