Rodney Wilkinson played reserve grade football for Carlton from 1968 to 1969.

Wilkinson was recruited from Morwell.

Wilkinson won the reserves best and fairest and best first year player awards in 1968, it was described in the 1968 Carlton Football Club Annual Report as:

After a quiet beginning Rodney Wilkinson, with solid consistent play was a clear-cut winner with 98 votes for the Best and Fairest. He played in 18 games and showed improvement in each game as the Season progressed. A feature of his play in the back pocket was the few kicks his opponent was allowed, due to his endeavour to carry out the Coach's instructions in not allowing any latitude to anybody he was minding.

He did not manage a Senior game for Carlton.

He was Carlton's senior runner for the latter part of 1970 and 1971. He replaced Serg Silvagni as runner when Serg came out of retirement to play in the 1970 Premiership.
