Game Review

Melbourne and Carlton were equal on points, and third and fourth on the ladder going into this Match of the Day at the MCG. But after an even first half, the Demons exerted their authority, and pulled away to hefty six-goal win that jolted Carlton's confidence on the eve of the finals.

Other matches in this round finished as expected, so the top four teams heading into September remained Essendon, Geelong, Melbourne and Carlton.
Blues full-forward Tom Carroll kicked another two goals, to take his season tally to 57 - still six behind Cat spearhead Doug Wade.
