Game Review

Four games into a very even season, Carlton was plunged deep into trouble by a third loss in succession at the hands of Geelong, and slumped to eighth on the ladder. Cats full-forward George Goninon - given silver service delivery of the football by his dominant roving division - was the difference between the two sides and ended the afternoon with six goals.

Fred Davies played a lone hand for Carlton in the ruck, and his four goals kept his team in the contest for three quarters – until the Blues were over-run in the final 15 minutes. Remarkably, Adam Inglis played his second and last game for the Blues in this match, having kicked five goals on debut the previous week. The only good news for Carlton afterwards was that Collingwood and Footscray were also beaten, leaving Fitzroy as the only undefeated team.
