Game Review

Earlier in the year, Fitzroy had cruised through the first seven rounds undefeated. But a shock loss to Geelong in round 10 was their second in three games, and they were expected to come out blazing when they hosted Carlton in this vital game at the Brunswick Street oval.

The match turned into an absorbing battle of the defences, and scoring opportunities were few before the Maroons made the most of their chances in the third quarter and broke away to a 10-point lead. But with the wind at their backs, Carlton rallied in the last ten minutes, and kicked 3.1 to 1.1 to snatch victory by just two points. Helping Carlton's cause, South Melbourne beat Essendon by a point at the Lake Oval, and suddenly, the Blues were back up to third.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 3rd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 97.3.
