Game Review

Although the Southerners were only one rung higher on the ladder than Carlton coming into this match, they had 12 points from three wins, and an impressive percentage of 140.78. The Blues had just 4 points and a miserable 37.20 %. Although the game was at Princes Park, it shaped as another hiding for the home side.

However, the Blueboys scored one of their best wins to date - only their second over South - thanks to a winning ruck and a dominant half-back line. Although meagre, Carlton's score of 3.6 represented the Blues second-highest score of the season so far (behind the 4.7 they had managed in their only previous win over St Kilda in round 6) and their cohesive defence kept the Lakesiders goalless.

"As was quite befitting, the chief factor in Carlton's success on Saturday was the veteran Peter Williams, who was best of the 36." - The Age.

Considine scored the first goal in drizzling rain.

"All that remains is to congratulate the club upon having at length got going in true and excellent form. This I do more heartily, because, like a good many more who remember what Carlton has done in the past to develop and popularise the game of football, I have waited longingly for the old club's return to power.
My one hope is that they may continue playing together as they played last Saturday, and, if they do, I venture to predict that South Melbourne and St.Kilda will not complete the list of their victims for the year." (Markwell- Australasian July 01 p20)

At the end of this round Carlton were in 7th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 43.8.
