Game Review

A torrid encounter, typical of matches in the era between these two sides.

Alex Duncan managed to be reported 3 times; for kicking George Rudolph, for elbowing Reuben Reid and for "making an offensive motion to the boundary umpire" (??). Surprisingly, he was exonerated on all counts.

The Tigers Donald Don was suspended for a lazy 11 matches for charging Newton Chandler.

This was Horrie Clover's last game as Captain for the Blues, replaced by Vice Captain Paddy O'Brien. The Football Record of the time said "Horrie Clover's illness will prevent him playing for a long time. He has sent in his resignation as Captain, and Pat O'Brien will be elected leader of the side, with McLatchie his vice" (Football Record, July 5, 1924).

At the end of this round Carlton were in 9th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 88.5.
