Blueseum Setup

ATTENTION: Future of the Blueseum?

There have recently been discussions about the future of the Blueseum amongst a few of us.

It looks like the idea of the club taking ownership of the site is not going to happen for one main reason. Despite many attempts the club has never risen above luke warm with respect to the possibility.

As the creator of the site and the person who initially pushed to have the ownership switched I have been advised by more than one person that it would not a good idea.

So I have started to waver in my thoughts on the matter in the last few months and have been sounding out various people to get advice.

It is a bit of a quandary, stuck between a couple of options.

If an ownership switch ever took place it would have some benefits in terms of the site generating revenue for the club directly and possibilities with respect to new content. However, the down side is possible loss of editorial control and putting at risk the content and countless hours of work of dozens of people.

Personally my biggest concern is my own personal liability with the site, while others can add content I will be the one who faces the courtroom if anything illegal ever happens on the site. Status quo is always an option as well.

The other option that is being considered is that the site be tranformed into an organisation that can raise funds either for the club or related charities.

This could involve more formal membership, committee, all that jazz.

I have been reading up on the formation of clubs/associations/community groups and I have to admit the information available online is a bit too vague for my liking.

If there is anyone out there with experience in this area I would love to hear from you. Also, would really value feedback from Blueseum contributors in general with regards to the information above.

At this stage this is pretty much a sounding out process, nothing concrete has been decided yet.

In the immortal words of 'Red Leader' (?), 'Keep on Target'!

This site was always intended to be handed to the Club. I think they need extra time to work out how to manage it.

If we don't get clarity by year's end then I'll come back to this forum.

If the club doesn't want it then I think its best if it plods along in its current form (or very similar too).

My first thought was that you could simply limit the people who have access to changing the data. Leaving it in the hands of people you trust. That way you can have some piece of mind that you are unlikely to get sued over something written as none of the 'trusted people' would be stupid enough to put you in that position.

In all honesty I think its in better hands now then it would be if the club took ownership. I'd hate to see what they would twist to paint themselves in a better light. Imagine what Collo would've done to all the Big Jack references!!!

So yeah, limit the users, create a 'checking' process before it goes live if you need to and keep up the good work. :-D

Don't do it, Jamie! Once the site goes to a corporation the upkeep will fall behind. I must admit that the information provided on / by the club is always lacking in its accuracy.

I must vote No for this option .. unless, of course, you just can't afford to keep running it yourself. The option, then, is for you to start charging people a membership fee which you could use for maintenance and upkeep of the site. I for one wouldn't mind contributing in this way.

For what it's worth, I really enjoy the site as it is. Whilst I haven't been keeping up to speed with the site recently due to a lot of other issues going on, I was extremely grateful of the opportunity I had to personalise my grandfathers page on Blueseum (Jim Mooring). It means a lot to me and my family that Jim (and all the Carlton players) be remembered for the true heroes they are.

To that end, whatever is in the best interest of the site staying relevant and up to date would be my preferred option. I don't know enough about all this type of thing to add much more than that, but it would be a shame to see the site compromised in any way.

Thank you.
