IF YOU WANT TO DO A PLAYER PROFILE

If you would like to do a player profile and need some information on individual players please put in a request in this thread.

I have access to some pretty comprehensive data on every Carlton player which may help when writing a profile, i.e. knowing where they played their 100th game or which game they kicked 5 in.

I can send any requests via email as an Excel attachment.

Hey Jars,

Cheers mate.

...

Oh. You've given me Ken Baxter instead of Harry Caspar. No biggie.

re: formats of the bios

Some are done:

Picture + Brief details ie playing years height, weight, jumper

Bio

Then Player Achievements + Links

Others add Player achievements to the top section.

My concern is that for the better known players you get a list of 10-12 items up top before you get to the bio and it looks out of whack.

Anyone have any views in this regard?

I like the player achievements at the top.

Don't see the point of having them below the main text as most of the achievements would be mentioned in the main text anyway. Anyone who bothers to read the entire profile will already have this information.

If it is at the top it is in a nice quick easy to read format for the significant number of people who will only look at the picture and maybe read a few of the facts about the player before going to another page.

An extra few facts at the top should not stop those inclined to read entire profiles.

Hope that makes sense?

Fair enough, I'll keep an eye out for those with achievements down below and move them back

After almost 2 years of operations, the Blueseum now appears to have a settled format for a player bio, comprising a:

  • stat / history intro in bold (including a picture where possible)

  • brief bio

  • Summary of achievements and / or Links

Please DO NOT alter the current structure. Any change you want to introduce will then have to be done for ALL BIOS. Feel free to raise an idea in the forums but DO NOT AD HOC INTRODUCE YOUR OWN IDEAS.

If you are working in the Player Profiles, and see a question mark for missing data, please DO NOT delete it. Over time the Blueseum intends to put out calls for information / relatives of such players to see if we can fill in the blanks. This will be good press for the Club and the player, and most importantly, the Blueseum.

Keep the question marks for those reviewing those players.

All players from 1920 onwards should now have their Debut game entered within the 'black box' of their biography.

If I have missed them, and I missed both Troy Bond and James Cook, please feel free to add them. You should be able to find the data through the backlinks function - the relevant 'Debuts' section should be clearly linked therein.

Over the last few months I've been adding the debuts of all players. I have almost completed the job with 1910-1913 still to go.

However, sometimes I have accidentally missed some (in either the Debuts pages or not linking the debut to both the game and the player). If I have missed any debuts that you see for players outside of the incompleted years please add them.

Further, in some work on the bios by other Blueseum volunteers the linked Debut has been removed and updated without the link ie deleting the linking from the Debut to the game. This defeats the purpose of my adding the debuts in the first place - so please don't do it.

re: player debuts

All players should now have their debut in their bio, linking to the game.

If I have missed some please bring them to my attention or update them yourself using the 'Debuts xxxx to xxxx' pages which you should be able to access via the backlinks function.
