Game Review

Carlton bounced back into contention with this 43-point demolition of Fitzroy at Princes Park. The ground was a quagmire and squalls of rain were driven across the ground by a gale. Fitzroy kicked with the wind to to the outer end and attacked through the mud and rain and wasted their opportunities. The Blues backs were too strong and remarkably marked the ball with ease.

Paul Schmidt kicked the entire Carlton score in the first quarter. While other players had trouble handling the slippery ball Don McIntyre marked the ball as if it was a dry day. Jack Carney broke his nose in a collision with Hurley just before half time. He refused to be replaced, and was cheered by the crowd when he returned to the field with his face almost covered in bandages. Carlton scored two goals against the wind in the third term to hold a 4 point lead. The Blues with a gale at their backs in the last quarter made the 'Roys' task look impossible.

A fox terrier "terrorised" the players by chasing them and nipping at their heels and running from end to end, until Jim Francis grabbed the pooch and placed the dog over the fence.

Best; McIntyre, Gill, Anderson, Park, Baxter, Francis, Cooper, Hollingshead, Skinner, Chitty, Green, Wrout.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 5th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 112.6.
