Biography

Jaxon Binns joined Carlton after being selected with pick No.32 in the 2022 NAB AFL Draft. Finishing second in the agility test and third in the two-kilometre time trial at the draft combine, it’s no surprise that Binns’ main weapon is his running capacity and ability to provide an option for teammates on the outside. Locking down a role on the wing for both the Dandenong Stingrays and Vic Country, Binns arguably saved his best football for the representative side. He had 39 disposals in a best-on-ground opening performance against the Allies, going on to average 26 disposals for the entirety of the 2022 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. It was a four-game stretch which saw Binns duly rewarded with under-18 All-Australian selection, named on the wing which he well and truly made his own. He was similarly consistent for the Stingrays in their campaign which led to a NAB League Grand Final, averaging over 21 disposals, just shy of six inside 50s and a goal a game across his eight matches for the season. Binns joins a contingent of Blues who have come out of the Dandenong Stingrays, including Jacob Weitering, Tom De Koning, Nic Newman and Matthew Cottrell.

On Binns’ selection, Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said the youngster was the kind of player which the Blues’ coaching staff, led by Michael Voss, would love to work with. “Jaxon is a quality player and person that we’re delighted to welcome to our football club via the draft,” Austin said. “His running capacity is seriously impressive, which he demonstrated to full effect for Vic Country on the way to a carnival where he went on and was named as an All-Australian for his efforts. “Jaxon is the kind of person that leaves nothing to chance: he has worked really hard on his craft and enhanced his strengths to make sure that he can be a really effective teammate for whatever side he plays for. “We’ve said that we wanted to add to our options on the wing and Jaxon is a player who we can see playing that role for us in the future. We’re excited to see him put his best foot forward at IKON Park.”

One of the hardest runners in this year’s AFL Draft crop is Jaxon Binns. The Dandenong Stingrays prospect has made a name for himself as a prolific outside midfielder, with the capacity to translate his best traits as a high half-forward. Having cracked the NAB League for a single game last year, Binns was a key contributor in eight outings as a top-ager in 2022. He also built on his Under 17 representative experience as a core member of the Vic Country Under 18 squad, including in a standout 39-disposal performance against the Allies. Like many Victorian prospects, the 17-year-old spent a large portion of his season adhering to school football commitments, turning out for APS Football premier Caulfield Grammar.

At the conclsuon of the 2025 season, Binns was delisted by the Blues despite having another year of his contract to run.

Binns was recruited from Berwick (VCFL)/Caulfield Grammar via the Dandenong Stingrays (TAC Cup).
