September 11
Reserves First Semi-Final
Carlton played University on the M.C.G.
The match was the curtain raiser to the Collingwood-Fitzroy match and began at 12.50pm
Playing in atrocious conditions Carlton had the better of University in the first quarter as the Blues made the most of their opportunities.
Hill kicked the first two goals which were soon followed by a goal to Bell. Just near the end of the first term Inch soccered through the fourth. Uni quickly replied adding their first just before the bell sounded to end the first quarter..
Players were sliding and slipping through the mud making it difficult to distinguish which side had the ball. The next two terms were fairly even but the students looked the better team. However, Carlton's accurate kicking gave the Blues an 11 point lead at three quarter time.
University's class and fitness shone in the final term and they kicked away, out scoring the Blues by 16 points.
Carlton lost; 8.5.53 - 9.15.69 (Half time Carl; 7.2 - 4.9)
Goals; Inch 3, Bell 2, Hill 2, Dacey
Best; Dee, Chappell, Bell, W. Lannell/Whannell, Inch, Hill, Key.
