The League last Friday sanctioned the Junior League clubs calling themselves the second eighteens of the League.
At the same time, the League clubs or the League as a body accept no responsibility for the seconds. The latter remain as they were - a separately-managed body.

Weak forward play cost Carlton the game. At least eight shots, close in, straight in front were miskicked.
Coburg with straight kicking held a four goal lead at half time.

The Sporting Globe (June 03) said Carlton had postponed their match with Leopold due for Saturday next.
This will enable the Carlton team to travel to Daylesford for the Kings Birthday long weekend. (Monday June 09)
Players are to assemble at Spencer Street Station at 5am on Saturday.
So far no details of this match have been found.

June 07
"To enable Carlton to go away on Saturday the Leopold Carlton match was put off until August 16.
Only four matches were played." (The Argus June 09 p11)

June 14
Carlton played Geelong at Princes Park
The weather was fine but cold. The ground was slippery.
Geelong won the toss and kicked with the wind to the Sydney Road end.
Geelong attacked from the start but Faust and Clarke repelled a couple of attacking moves. Geelong however, broke through for 2 goals and followed it up with another to lead by 18 points at quarter time. 0.3 - 3.3
Martin was injured during this term and was useless for the rest of the game. Blackler received a free kick close in and scored the Blues' first. This was followed with a goal snapped over his head by Dunn. Cahill defended well and got the ball to Robertson whose long kick went through. Blackler from a free scored a goal. Dunn again, snapped a goal. The Blues led by a point 4.5 - 4.4
Geelong dominated the third term with seven goals, booting 5 of them in just 10 minutes. The Blues only goal resulted from a free kick to Ewins, and he kicked to Robertson who took a nice mark and goaled. The visitors had a match winning 37 point lead at three quarter time. 5.7 - 11.8
Within 30 seconds of the start, Blackler with a nice drop kick bought up Carlton' sixth goal. Groves scored the final Carlton goal, the Blues going down by 28 points. 7.8 - 11.12

Richmond kicked with the aid of a strong wind and held a considerable lead at quarter time.
At half time the Blues had reduced the deficit to just 3 points.
With the wind at their backs the Tigers increased the lead to 44 points at three quarter time.
The Blues were out scored in the final term by 8 points to 7.

Carlton played St.Kilda
The Saints have yet to win a game, they fielded a team of new local talent..
Neck and neck throughout the first half with no more than a point either way.
At three quarter time the Saints led 6.9 - 4.6.
The Blues were desperate in the last and fought back to lead by seven points. With five minutes to go St.Kilda drew level.
Two minutes before the bell the Saints goaled again, and then added another behind to seal the match.
Carlton lost by 7 points.

July 19
Carlton played Melbourne at Princes Park
The Blues played Chatfield from Essendon Seconds.
Robertson scored within seconds of the bounce and shortly followed up with another goal.
Faust played well in defence.
Carlton got out to a five goal lead at half time.
Melbourne fought back in the third, but the Blues dominated the last quarter.
Miller and Cahill continually provided opportunities for the Carlton forwards in the last term.

State football championship in Hobart.
Geelong combined played a Combined Juniors team at Geelong.
The Geelong team was made up of first and second eighteen players..
The Combined Juniors won 10.13.73 - 10.9.69

August 16
Deferred match from June 07 Carlton - Leopold match.

Carlton played Leopold as a curtain raiser to the Victoria vs NSW match on the MCG.
During the first quarter scores were level on many occasions.
Leopold gained the upper hand and held a 19 point lead at three quarter time.
By now a crowd of around 10,000 were watching the two teams battling it out. However, Leopold ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Final Carlton game of the year.
Carlton played Richmond at Princes Park
Carlton played juniors, Greig, Nash, and Farrow and all proved themselves.
A poor standard game by both teams.
Richmond got out to an early lead which they retained. The only highlight was that the Blues managed to boot six goals to four in the last term.
