1966 U19s and Reserves

The year is 1966 in front of my sister’s flat in St. Kilda. Ron looking dapper in his Carlton blazer has given up his Sunday afternoon to sign up a skinny country kid of modest ability, me! He charmed my parents and reassured them that Carlton was a family club that looked after all its young kids. My career was brief and forgettable, U/19s and a few Reserves games, although I did get to play a few games with Wallsy and Doully, who were just starting out. Ron is simply a big hearted, caring guy despite the fearsome reputation. Helped transform Carlton from an amateur suburban club into the professional outfit it is today.
