Charles Octavius "Charley" Barrass

There is some confusion with Barrass. Possibly three players with this name.
The Barrass name appears with other clubs, senior and junior, around the 1870's.

Charles O. Barrass attended Scotch College Melbourne circa 1856.

1865 April 29
C. Barrass is running off 10 yards in the quarter mile handicap flat race at the Amateur Athletics Sports Day at the Warehousemen's Oval Ground, St.Kilda Park.
He also entered the quarter mile hurdle running off 20 yards.
C. Barrass won the quarter mile flat race.

1865 November 18
Melbourne Amateur Athetlic Sports at the M.C.G.
440 Yards Handicap Flat Race
C. Barrass won the race running from the scratch position in 55 seconds.
Other runners had up to a 20 yard start.
First prize was 5 guineas ($11.00)

1868 Barrass named in Carlton squad to play Emerald Hill at Emerald Hill, Saturday 6th June. (The Argus)

1869 April 3
M.C.C. Amateur Athetic Meeting at the M.C.G.
C. O. Barrass came second in the 120 yards flat race.
He also competed in the quarter mile steeplechase which he was leading, but fell at the water jump and withdrew from the race.

1870 C. Barrass is listed as a Carlton comitteeman.

1870 Barrass played in first football game of season, North vs South of the Yarra.

1870 C. Barrass played in the Carlton side to play Albert Park 18 June 1870 Challenge Cup game which ended in draw.

This 18 June game's playing list is the same as in Brian Hansen's book," The History of The Carlton Football Club", but he lists a W. Barrass.(p21)

Could this be a misprint, the same person, or a relation?

C. Barrass, July 17 1875, playing for Carlton Imperial (Firsts) scored a goal against South Melbourne.

A Edward 'Ted' Barrass mentioned in 1880 as among better players for the year.

1882 Charles Octavius Barrass passed away at the Melbourne Hospital 24 April, aged 38.

1882 August 29
The Argus (p9) ran an item on a new gymnasium in Melbourne in Swanston Street run by a Mr. Miller.
Towards the end of the article it mentions;
"It may be stated that Mr. Miller has offered the use of the gymnasium for a benefit performance for the widow and family of the late Mr. Charles Barrass, a noted athlete and football player."
