1880 As one of the new comers, very much pleased the
connisseur. Possessed a good turn of speed,is a quick reliable kick, and not easily put off in his efforts, especially on the forward wings.

1881 An unassuming, excellent, reliable player on the forward wings, his not showy but decidedly effective play has caused many an opponent to reckon without his host.

1882 Spear played in a mixed Carlton team that played the junior club Melbourne Imperial Trades on Thursday, August 31. (Both Spears played)

At the Carlton AGM, F. Spear was presented with an illuminated address for services to the club.

1924 F. Spear played in an old players match at the M.C.G. on September 26.

1931 August 29 (p6)
F. Spear ("an old Carltonian of 1880") wrote to the Sporting Globe donating £1/1/- towards the Charity Football matches.

Volume 5 of "Origins of Australian Football" (p56) has Frank Spear listed for 1880-82 and 1884-85.
