Gary Cowling was a centreman / half-forward who played reserve grade football for Carlton in 1977 and 1980.

Gary Cowling was a gun country footballer who played in the very strong Bendigo FL which provided the Carlton FC with many champions and premiership footballers when it was regionally zoned to the Blues. Gary Cowling would win three best and fairest awards with South Bendigo in 1976, 1979 and 1980.

Cowling was recruited from South Bendigo.

He didn't play a senior game for Carlton.
