260th Carlton Player

Sharing an identical playing record to Tom Hanson, Gunter played a single game for Carlton in Season 1911. His game was against St Kilda at Princes Park in Round 15, 1911 and Carlton won by 114 points. Not bad for his only league game. It must also be said that the senior St Kilda players had gone on strike over "Ladies Tickets" and it was not the full St Kilda side.

Gunter was recruited from Innisfail.
There is an Innisfail near Newry, east of Maffra in Gippsland.
Also an Innisfail homestead in the Yea - Yarck area of N.E.Victoria.
There was a policeman, a Constable H.P. Gunter stationed in Alexandra Vic. in 1909, is he a relation?
Alexandra is 15km from Yarck.

Note:

On the day before the match, The Argus July 28 (p5) 1911;
"Carlton are to try Grinlaw, an up-country 13st. fast runner to-morrow. He is said to be a champion."
Difficult to read, Grinlaw or Grintaw. First four letters are G-r-i-n.
