Ken May won the Alberton Football League's Best and Fairest Award in 1957, and was recruited to Carlton from Gippland club Won Wron.

Ken played 3 games for Carlton Reserves, kicking 3 goals in his first against Essendon, 1 goal against Footscray and none on his 3rd game against Collingwood. The Collingwood welcoming committee headed by Collingwood Full Back Bill Thripp broke Ken's right cheek bone resulting in three nights in hospital. Selection for the Senior 18 was tough and as it played out Carlton Seniors won their first 8 Games in 1959, that combined with injury, 4 hour plus trip time to Melbourne, some cows to milk at home and a chance that Won Wron would make the finals in 59 was enough for Ken to stick with his beloved Swans for the remainder of 59. Ken however played the very next week for Won Wron against Fish Creek with his 'good' cheek taped up and snuck through a lazy seven goals. Ken later coached Welshpool in the Alberton Football League for 3 years, including the 1962 Premiership. He later coached Yarram for 3 years for 2 final appearances before seeing out his playing days with Won Wron.
