He didn't play a senior game for Carlton.

Braun was drafted later by the West Coast Eagles and made his debut in 1997. He was considered a great servant of the West Coast Eagles, noted for being extremely loyal. In a team that featured high profile names like Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Cox and Glass, Braun's achievements were usually shadowed by these 'big name' players.

His individual honours include runner-up in the club champion award in 1999 and best clubman in 2003. He was also runner-up in the Bendigo Pioneers best and fairest in 1996, and represented Victoria Country in the championships. He was also in the International Rules team in 2004. He was a member of the skillful West Coast Eagles 2006 premiership team.

Braun announced his AFL retirement midway through the 2008 AFL season, effective at the end of the season. In total he played 228 games and kicked 66 goals in a magnificent career for the West Coast Eagles.

Note: At the end of the 2013 season the Bendigo Pioneers Football Club named it best team of 21 years, the team included three players (Andrew Walker, Luke Livingston and Damien Lock who had played senior football with Carlton and another three players Steven Reaper, Simon Rosa and Michael Braun) who had a run with the Carlton reserves team (the latter player was to become a premiership player with the West Coast Eagles). The team was compiled with the help of former and present Bendigo Pioneer coaches that included two former Carlton players Brian Walsh and Tony Southcombe.
