Michael ‘Mick’ Laidler was recruited from West Preston. He played Under 19 and Reserve grade football for Carlton from 1976 to 1978, but did not manage a senior game.

Laidler also played cricket at District level for the Carlton Cricket Club. After leaving Princes Park, he joined VFA club Coburg and played in their 1979 premiership team.

In 1978 Mick Laidler would head to Coburg in the VFA where he played 113 games and kicked 133 goals which in anyone's language was a very good career with the Lions.
