Patrick John Pelly

Pelly played 8 consecutive games for Carlton after first pulling on the boots for the Blues in Season 1904. Interestingly both his debut and final game - both in 1904 - were against St Kilda.

He was recruited from St. James (located between Benalla and Yarrawonga) and was a cousin of Carlton’s vice captain Jim Flynn, who was also a teammate in seven of his 8 games, before returning to his country club, St. James. Both cousins were later members of the 1909 St. James premiership side.

Above; Pelly is pictured in the 1909 St.James premership team photo wearing his Carlton guernsey.

He died on February 20, 1939 at Benalla aged 61.
After a service on Tuesday at St.Joseph's Church Benalla his burial took place at Winton Cemetery.

Early August 2023 CFC has been contacted and images of Pelly has been forwarded to the club.
Carlton historian Tony De Bolfo has produced this accompanying story about Pelly.
