He was named in the 24 man team squad for the opening match of the 1891 season against St.Kilda.
There is only a slight possibility that he may have played, for Blueseum has the names of 19 out of the 20 who took the field.
However, a Robertson played with St.Kilda, see below, May 22.

At the V.F.A. meeting, North Melbourne delegate, a Mr. J. Gardiner, (not to confused with former Carlton captain J. Gardiner), said Robertson crossed to Carlton because he would receive payment.
The V.F.A. formed a committee to investigate.

V.F.A. meeting into the Robertson case.
Robertson had asked Carlton how much he was going to be paid, and was told, "We have never paid anyone yet, Robertson, and don't intend to commence now."
Robertson replied that he had been offered 30 shillings per week by another club.
Robertson had left Carlton and was now playing with St.Kilda.

The charges against Robertson were not proved, but he will be suspended until he signs a statutory declaration that he had never received or promised any money.
The St.Kilda delegate said that Carlton were only persuing the matter because they wanted the 4 points from their loss to the Saints on May 2.
The Saints would forfeit the match if Robertson or the club was found guilty.
So it seems that R. Robertson must have played for St.Kilda in round one.
1896 The captain of the St.Kilda Football Club was a R. Robertson. (same player?)
