Carlton took on the ladder leading South Melbourne but couldn't come away with the win.
By winning, South increased their lead over second placed Collingwood to 12 points / 3 matches. Carlton sat in third place with the Saints still breathing down their neck. Again Charlie Hammond came out of retirement to help out the Blues for the last time.
