Scores were level when Andrew Phillips proved the hero for Carlton, with a brilliant left-foot snap goal in the last minute of the match. Captain Stephen Kernahan was outstanding with 18 kicks and 12 big marks, whilst Simon Verbeek proved a handful up forward with four goals.
