Game Review

The Blues received a reality check by arch-rival Collingwood who smashed them by 67 points and kicked them out of the top 4 with 2 rounds remaining.

"The physique of the teams was remarkably different. Carlton hefty, big arms and huge thighs, rippling with powerful muscles; Collingwood, smaller but packed with wire and whipcord. It was a clash of force against speed, and speed told." Collingwood outscored the Blues in the final term by 10.3 to 2.2. "Rarely in the long history of the club, stretching way back more than half a century, has Carlton received such a drubbing." (Referee September 03)

Attendance was described as large with gate takings of £544.
The June 23 match South Melbourne v Carlton, the crowd was 40,000 with gate takings of £584. This week with a difference of £40 would indicate a crowd of approximately 38,500.
The Herald, September 05 (p4) said the takings were a record for Victoria Park £644, minus £80 amusement tax, equals £564
