Game Review
"The team was deprived of the services of Gordon Ross, whose medical adviser had ordered him to stand down, and had gone to Western Australia for a month. Opie who was also indisposed, was told to cease playing for six months. The captain J. McShane was not playing as he had hurt himself in the match against Fitzroy on the previous Saturday." (Herald May 14 p4)
After suffering humiliation the previous week, the Blues made seven changes to their side, and kept South Melbourne to just one major score for the whole match. Although a lot of the Bloods' missed shots were simply unforgiveable, Carlton's Percy Pitt nailed two majors in an impressive debut, while full-back Frank Hince was impassable all day in a brilliant display.
One win and one loss now had the Blues sitting sixth on the ladder, ahead of two winless teams in Melbourne and South Melbourne.
