Game Review

Fitzroy had been in poor form and ex-Carlton stalwart Graham Donaldson had relinquished the coaching position, being replaced by Graham Campbell.

The Blues set the tone with a strong opening half, and kept the Lions at bay for the remainder of the game in front of a small crowd of 13,400.

Robert Walls had suffered a season-ending injury. Carlton's new captain was Peter Jones. Tony Smith made his debut and played both his games for Carlton both under 'Percy' Jones as captain.

Carlton returned to the winning circle by kicking their highest tally against the disappointing Lions since 1970. No Fitzroy team has been happy at Princes Park in recent times and although veteran Kevin Murray equalled the League's day games record of 331, the vistors could not claim much from the game. - Football Record.
