Game Review
This was a woeful display by the Blues, who were beaten all over the ground by Melbourne at the MCG, and dropped to eleventh place on the ladder.
With only one goal on the board, and 48 points down at three-quarter time, Carlton never really troubled Melbourne. The Demons looked a far better side; opening up their attack, combining well and defending solidly. The Blues are in real trouble now, needing a succession of wins to be a force this season. Melbourne are now placed third on the ladder with prospects of another successful year. - Football Record.
Carlton's 4.9 (33) was the lowest they have recorded against Melbourne since they scored 4.13 (37) to the Demons 11.15 (81) in the second semi-final of 1959. The lowest ever score kicked by the Blues against Melbourne was 1.2 (8) to 4.8 (32) way back in 1903. - Football Record.
