Game Review

As far as Carlton's fortunes went in the early few years of the VFL competition, today was a pretty good day. For the very first time, we defeated Collingwood at Princes Park - oh, the joy! One of our early favourites - Ernie Walton - became the first Blue to play 50 games, reaching his milestone in Carlton's 53rd VFL match. As well, lively forward Joe Sullivan's three goals lifted him to second on the competition goal-kicking table, behind Geelong's Ted Lockwood.

Carlton finally defeat Collingwood at Princes Park with a final margin of 16 points. Jubilation ensues. - 100 Years of Australian Rules Football.

"Carlton have been battling a long time now to regain their glory, and each year have witnessed an improvement in their play. It is only a question of time before they will once again have a fine team. On Saturday they entertained Collingwood, and the latter have no reason to complain of the warmth of their reception, for they never even obtained a goal, whilst their opponents bagged four. The complete scores showing Carlton 4-1; Collingwood 0-9. Notwithstanding that they only crossed the line five times to the Magpies nine, they exhibited better system throughout.
Their marking with the wet ball was excellent, and they kicked off the ground with great judgment. In the last quarter Carlton played a strong, defensive game, and it succeeded. Collingwood was beaten badly in the ruck, and across the centre line - a sure sign of defeat.
For the winners, Morrison, Considine and Walsh in the ruck, Powell, and his supporter, Rowland and Rigby in the centre-line, Thompson, Sharkey, Casey, Stuckey, and McShane in defence, and Lewis and Sullivan (who kicked three goals) forwards, were the pick."
