Game ReviewIn a heart-stopping finish, rover Ron Cooper marked right on the final bell and goaled, as the crowd invaded the ground. It was a team-lifting win that gave the Blues a 4-3 record.
"Carlton defeated Essendon with the last kick of the day, and that kick made after the bell had rung. The seconds were ticking off. Essendon were a point ahead. The ball went out of bounds near the Essendon goal. From the throw-in Carlton forced a behind. The scores were level. The kick off was flummed. Hale surged into the ball could not handle it, then finally got it to Ron Cooper. A mark was awarded and the bell rang. Cooper got the goal and won the game with his kick after the bell."
