Game Review

Once again, it was Carlton's defence that made the difference in a relentless contest against South Melbourne. Ahead by three goals at half time, the Bloods were held to a score of just one point from then on, and the Blues scraped home by that margin.

"Carlton executed a great performance on their own fine enclosure on Saturday against South Melbourne. At half-time the game seemed over, South held such a commanding lead, having 4-5 on the board to only 1-5 of their opponents; but from that out Carlton played their most doggedly, finally wearing the Southerners down and winning a most exciting game by 1 point.
It was a glorious victory! Carlton 4.7 to 4.6"
(Jack Worrall, The Referee September 05)
