Carlton gave up a three-goal lead at the last break in this match, as the Saints marched on to share the points in a thrilling draw. St Kilda and Carlton had been level on seven wins apiece in 8th and 9th place on the ladder, with Carlton having a marginal lead in percentage.

This was a setback, but the Blues at least held on 8th spot, with a percentage of 92.7.
