George Alexander Waugh

One of Carlton's founders George F. Bowen writing in 1898 says George Waugh was the secretary of the football club in its first inception in 1861. (Table Talk May 13 p13)

Could be George Alexander Waugh born 1843 who may have played in the first game between Scotch College and Melbourne Grammar in 1858.

George Waugh was also one of the pioneer players of the Carlton Cricket Club.

Waugh was on the first committee for the Carlton Football Club in 1864.

1868 The Argus has Waugh named in the Carlton side to play Geelong on Monday 25th. May.

1868 May 30
Waugh scored the only Carlton goal in the match against Melbourne at the Melbourne ground (a drawn game).

1868 June 6
Waugh named in squad to play Emerald Hill at Emerald Hill.

Mentioned as one of the top Carlton players for 1869.

Played in the first game of 1869 against Geelong
at Royal Park, Queen's Birthday holiday.

1870 June 4
A game against the 18th Regiment was cancelled, a P. Waugh was named in the Carlton team.
This probably was a misprint and should have been G. Waugh.

1870 June 11
The following week G. Waugh was named as an emergency against Melbourne.

1870 August 20
Waugh was named in a mixed Carlton team that played Collingwood at Royal Park.
