Game Review
Buoyed by a drought-breaking win the previous week, Carlton (7th) hosted Melbourne (5th) at Princes Park on a perfect day for football. On a clear and cool afternoon, the Fuchsias had the better of the first half, before Carlton launched a revival to get within one straight kick during the third term. The Blues couldn't maintain the pressure however, and in an even last quarter, both sides hit the post with set shots as Melbourne won by 11 points.
On the Carlton side, Scott was far and away the best man, his high-marking being very telling. J. McShane followed finely, and H. McShane, Snell, Powell (from Ballarat Imperial), Noonan, Ryan (a St. Xavier's schoolboy), Watson, Leahy, and Barlow were also prominent.
After four rounds, Fitzroy held sway at the top of the ladder over Essendon, Collingwood and Melbourne. At the foot of the table, only St Kilda stood between Carlton and last place.
