Game Review

The Blues returned to the Winners List with this 21 point win against the Demons, who had been sitting one spot above Carlton on the ladder. This win would let us jump over not only Melbourne, but Richmond, to move into 5th place after 5 rounds.

"Dick, the Carlton leader, never made a mistake, his marking being the ideal of perfection. In his general play he was as steady as a rock, and at several stages in the last quarter, when his men appeared likely to run wild, his coolness and judgment always saved the threatened disaster." (Australasian May 29)

At the end of this round Carlton were in 3rd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 104.6.

Footnote

The Australasian's match report was called "One Hundred Free Marks" and said, "McKenzie gave a free kick a minute."
In three games this round the umpires paid over 100 free marks (kicks) in 100 minutes of football!
