Game Review

The Blues controlled the game for all but 14 seconds. On top across the centre, Graham Gilchrist, John Chick and Laurie Kerr constantly drove Carlton into attack. John Heathcote sharked Fitzroy's big man Alan "Butch" Gale's ruck work and was the best small man on the ground. Johnny James blanketed star Maroon half forward Owen Abrahams.
Despite the Carlton forwards being fed, their shocking inaccuracy in front of goal cost the Blues dearly. In the dying seconds Fitzroy's Graham Campbell, out of a pack managed to score the winning goal.
The game was thriller with scores being level 5 times in the second half.
