Billy emigrated from Germany to arrive in Australia in Adelaide as a toddler in August 1849.
What Blueseum has found so far, is that William Hipe played in the Second Twenty during 1874.
Billy was a famous runner winning a number of races. He was quite well known throughout Australia as the Referee's article (below) on him indicates, and that was written when Bill was 76.

Hipe is named in a 28 man Second Twenty squad that played Carlton Imperial in the University Paddock.

Of the many trophies Billy had won during his running career, this Carlton Sports Day Trophy was the one he valued the most.
It was donated to the club by Charlie Kavanagh/Cavanagh a manager of Melbourne's Theatre Royal.
