Game Review
Once again it was a very blustery day and this, together with last minute withdrawals of Lofts and Walls from the Carlton side, upset the Blues. Hawthorn matched Carlton in every department in a very scrambly opening and although Carlton led by 3 points at ΒΌ time, Hawthorn looked the better side.In the second quarter, Hawthorn were first to the ball and made better use of it than Carlton. They were clear winners across the centre and while out-bumping Carlton beat us at our own game.
Carlton added 5 goals in the third term but hawthorn did not lose control. In a thrilling finish, Hawthorn held on to earn a well deserved win. They play hard, tough football but are the fairest team I have seen this year.
Best for Carlton were Silvagni, Collins, McLean (in the back pocket), Jesaulenko and Crosswell, whilst for Hawthorn Meagher was best on Ground, Hudson kicked 7 goals, and Crimmins, Arthur, Keddie and Bussel were also good.
McLean and Smith were both reported in the Reserves.
