Game Review

The barnstorming Blues shaved a point or two off their Premiership odds when they easily accounted for Collingwood in the wet at Victoria Park. Carlton followers Jim Flynn and ‘Pompey’ Elliott relished the heavy going, and constantly drove the Blues forward from the crushes. Both were outstanding in an important victory by 20 points. In fact, the wet weather in this round produced a couple of real upsets. Lowly Melbourne beat South Melbourne at the MCG, and previously winless St Kilda kept Essendon to a miserable 1.7 (13) at the Junction Oval. The Saints kicked 6.8 (44) to win by 33 points.

After four rounds, Carlton was now alone at the top of the ladder, unbeaten and with an extraordinary percentage of 202.34. Fitzroy (3 wins) South Melbourne (3 wins) and Collingwood (2 wins) made up the top four.
