Alan 'Alby' Mangels son Alan Mangels played senior player in the 1970's before going to Geelong in 1980, his uncle was Carlton legend Bob Chitty.

Alan's mother, Margaret Mangels was one of the ladies that assisted in preparing refreshments etc to the players at their 'home' matches and continued helping with the social activities for many years from at least 1957 and was probably also involved when her son Alan senior was playing in the Under 19s in the late 1940's.She had an award named after her for the U/19's that was granted in the Under 19s between 1970 and 1973 as the 'The Margaret Mangels Trophy':

He didn't play a senior game for Carlton.
